After a quite long travel lasted almost two days considering two flights and due busses we finally arrived to Ilheus in the state of Bahia.
Just few months from the first meeting of the project, the eight group were together again in order to work on social economy and on the next steps of SEEDS2 project.
Since the first day of activities the group was very inclusive and motivated and there were a good balance: some people were already present in the previous meetings and other were new, some had more experience in facilitating and exchanges and other had on practical field related with social entrepreneurship: everyone wanted to give his own contribution.
During the meeting we prepared the activities for the Youth exchange in Italy and Perù but we had also free time to get to know each other better in the beautiful framework of Ilheus.
In my opinion an added value of the meeting in Ilheus was the possibility to visit some social enterprises who work in the local area of the city.
They are three different realities whose aim is improving and developing the local level: one is a network of local farmers who sell traditional product of Ilheus such as coffee and cocoa, the second is an association who work with children in a poor area of Ilheus and the third is a cocoa farm where workers are all locals.
The cocoa local production is very important for Ilheus region despite the city is one of the most important cocoa production centre in the world, this business is for the majority in the hands of the multinationals that almost destroyed the entire local industry and what the region has been doing to economically recover from them.
At the beginning, I had contrasting feeling: it was for me the first time in Brazil and I didn’t know exactly what to expect from the meeting but I can say it went over my expectations especially for group feelings and commitment.
